ClearSkiesâ„¢ Fabric
The biggest change to the 2026 version of The One is the introduction of ClearSkiesâ„¢, Gossamer Gear’s new shelter fabric.
ClearSkies combines a lightweight 15D recycled Robic nylon base with a 20D dope-dyed ripstop grid for improved tear resistance and durability. An advanced silicone and PU coating creates a fully sealed waterproof barrier while keeping the fabric remarkably light.
The result is a fabric rated to 4,923 mm of hydrostatic head, providing substantially more water resistance than the previous version while maintaining the low weight that makes The One appealing to ultralight backpackers.
Why We Like It
The One has always been appealing because it doesn’t ask you to choose between an extremely light shelter and a shelter that is actually comfortable to live in.
The 2026 version improves on that formula with better fabric, better ventilation, and a more refined setup system.
At under 20 ounces for the shelter itself, The One is light enough to make a noticeable difference in an ultralight backpacking kit. At the same time, the 84-inch length, 33-inch head width, 49-inch peak height, and large vestibule give you considerably more usable space than its weight might suggest.
We also like that it uses trekking poles for the structure. If you’re already carrying trekking poles, you don’t have to carry a separate set of tent poles.
Ventilation & Condensation
Like any single-wall shelter, The One can experience condensation under the right conditions. The new design addresses this with an integrated retractable ventilation system that allows you to increase airflow when conditions permit.
Open the vent on calmer nights to encourage airflow, or close it down when weather protection is the priority.
The improved ventilation doesn’t eliminate the basic physics of condensation in a single-wall shelter, but it gives you another useful tool for managing moisture inside the tent.
What Is The One Best For?
The One is designed primarily for solo backpacking, ultralight thru-hiking, fast-and-light trips, and three-season adventures where keeping shelter weight low is a priority.
It’s especially well suited to hikers who already carry trekking poles and want those poles to serve double duty as their shelter structure.
With a 16-square-foot floor and large vestibule, it provides enough room for a solo hiker and gear without stepping up to the weight and bulk of a conventional freestanding tent.
The Tradeoff
The One is a single-wall trekking pole tent, and understanding that design is important before buying.
It requires trekking poles or a dedicated pole set for setup, and while the built-in ventilation helps manage condensation, single-wall shelters can still collect moisture in humid or cool conditions.
The trekking-pole design also means setup takes a little more attention than simply assembling a freestanding tent. In exchange, you get a shelter that is dramatically lighter and packs down very small.
For ultralight backpackers, that tradeoff is usually well worth it.
