Why We Like it

The Torrid is a great example of keeping an insulated jacket simple. You get a lot of warmth for the weight, and the synthetic APEX insulation keeps working when exposed to moisture—an advantage over down in wet or humid conditions.

The 10D shell hits a nice middle ground for an ultralight puffy: light enough for serious weight-conscious backpacking without going all the way down to the more delicate 7D fabric.

The Tradeoff
