Why We Like It
Shoulder strap storage is one of those small pack upgrades that can make a noticeable difference on long days. Keeping a phone, snacks, sunglasses, or other frequently used items in front of you means less digging through the main pack every time you need something.
The Tradeoff
You’re adding another piece of gear to the pack, and the pocket does occupy some space on your shoulder strap. It also isn’t a waterproof compartment, so anything that needs reliable protection from heavy rain should be stored in a more appropriate dry location.
Rikkar Take
A worthwhile upgrade for hikers who regularly find themselves reaching into their pack for the same few items. Choose the Medium if you want a smaller, lighter pocket for a phone and essentials; the Large makes more sense when you want additional room for a larger phone, snacks, or other small gear.
