Why We Like It

The Vetta 20 is a great example of what we like about ultralight gear: it keeps the features that matter and leaves out the bulk that doesn’t.

At 14.5 ounces, it’s light enough to disappear on a day hike, but it still gives you useful exterior storage for the things you want within easy reach. The large stretch-mesh front pocket is particularly handy for layers or other gear you don’t want buried inside the pack, while the shoulder strap pockets provide additional quick-access storage.

What Is the Vetta 20 Best For?

It’s also a good option for hikers who already have a larger backpacking pack but want something much smaller and lighter for shorter outings.

The 20-liter capacity is enough for typical day-hiking essentials—layers, food, water, navigation, and other small pieces of gear—without encouraging you to fill every available inch of space.

The Tradeoff

The Vetta 20 is intentionally minimalist, and that comes with some limitations.

There is no traditional frame or built-in hip belt, so the pack is designed around relatively light loads rather than carrying a large amount of heavy gear. If you’re looking for a pack for extended backpacking trips or routinely carry heavier loads, a larger backpacking pack such as the Mariposa 60 will be a better fit.

The Vetta makes more sense when keeping the pack itself light and carrying only what you need is the priority.
