Pack Compatibility
The Fastbelt is compatible with the Skala 38, Kumo 36, Fast Kumo, Grit 28, Loris 25, Cima 15, Vagabond Jet, Minimalist 19, and Aero Jet.
It can also be attached to the Mariposa and Gorilla, but Gossamer Gear does not recommend replacing their PVT hipbelt with the Fastbelt because doing so can reduce the packs’ weight-transfer performance.
Why We Like It
The Fastbelt makes sense when a frameless or lightweight pack needs a little more stability but doesn’t need a full-featured suspension belt. The small zippered pockets are also genuinely useful, giving you somewhere to keep snacks or other small essentials without adding a separate hipbelt pocket.
The Tradeoff
At 3.3 ounces, the Fastbelt is considerably heavier than Gossamer Gear’s 1.5-ounce Blackbelt. You’re paying that weight for padding, adjustment, and storage, so the Fastbelt is most worthwhile when those features provide a meaningful improvement in comfort or convenience.
Rikkar Take
Choose the Fastbelt when you want a little more comfort and functionality than a simple webbing belt provides. It’s a good fit for hikers using a compatible Gossamer Gear pack who want hipbelt support and accessible storage while keeping the overall system firmly in lightweight territory.
