Why We Like It
The folded format makes the Thinlight especially easy to grab and use throughout the day. Keep it accessible for breaks on the trail, unfold it for a seat around camp, or use it as an extra layer beneath your sleeping pad.
It’s a simple piece of foam, but that’s exactly what makes it useful. There’s no complicated setup, and it takes up very little space when folded.
The Tradeoff
This is deliberately minimalist foam, so don’t expect the cushioning or insulation of a full-size sleeping pad. Its compact folded format also provides less coverage than a larger pad.
The advantage is convenience: when you want a lightweight pad that’s easy to carry and immediately available for sitting, insulation, or ground protection, the folded design makes more sense than carrying a larger dedicated pad.
Rikkar Take
The Folding Thinlight is a good fit for hikers who appreciate simple gear that can do more than one job.
We particularly like it as an always-available sit pad for trail breaks and camp, with the added benefit of providing some insulation and ground protection when needed. At roughly 3 ounces, it’s an easy piece of gear to justify carrying when versatility matters more than cushioning.
