Why We Like It
The spork is one of those pieces of gear where combining two utensils actually makes sense. The spoon handles most backpacking meals, while the fork tines are useful for foods that don’t cooperate with a spoon, and the long handle keeps your hands clean when eating directly from a deep pouch.
The Tradeoff
The extra length makes it less compact than a standard backpacking spork, and the 20-gram weight is slightly more than some minimalist utensils. You’re carrying those extra grams for the reach and versatility, so it makes the most sense if you regularly eat from deep pots or meal bags.
Rikkar Take
A very practical one-utensil solution for an ultralight cook kit. The long handle is the real reason to choose it, while the polished bowl and fork tines make it comfortable and versatile enough that you can leave the separate spoon and fork at home.
